The US personally guarantees the Saudi Monarchy. So short of a total armed revolution that the US military could not put down they can maintain control with brutal reprisal against rebels (Saudi government practices public beheading and most of the things Sadam was removed from power for doing).

War, violence and a continually destabilized Middle East.|||We have a country that has squandered its most valuable resource 鈥?oil. It did not help raise the standard of living of the population to the point that they would have an alternative opportunity to produce product. You can鈥檛 grow corn in the sand. After the oil is gone hate will be their only export. Unhappy people produce unhappy results.|||Significant problems. There are two of particular importance:

- A tendency of Saudis to want to avoid hard work. They want to be managers (but not take the trouble to get the MBA%26#039;s to know how to do it); but they are not into the dirtywork of actually doing things, much of which work is done by foreigners there on work visas (as I was for five years).

- A major bug in the Qur%26#039;an: the prohibition of interest on money. Not only does this make a mess of the financial markets, it infects the entire population with procrastination, as the costs of delay are not taken into account.|||you forgot to mention 100% royal family control.
