The natural rate of unemployment is the rate that employment %26quot;should%26quot; be at given frictional and structural unemployment rates.



Frictional unemployment is merely unemployment that occurs as people leave one job for another out of personal preference or whatnot. It happens. The longer it takes them to find a new job, the higher the frictional unemployment rate will be.



Structural unemployment is involuntary unemployment that occurs when an industry or firm essentially restructures or refinances or goes out of business and is forced to fire people. This happens constantly in a country, and is thus factored into the expected natural rate of unemployment.



When the employment is above or below the natural rate, it is referred to as a change in %26quot;Cyclical unemployment,%26quot; i.e. the unemployment or lack thereof is attributed to cyclical changes in the economy. When the economy is in recession, there might be a lot more structural unemployment than normal, and the job-finding rate might be substantially lower than normal.



Ultimately, the %26quot;Natural Rate of Unemployment%26quot; is a simple idea. On a macroeconomic scale, there will never be full employment, in practice, thus the Natural rate is what is attributed to the normal unemployment that inevitably occurs in every country.

This type of unemployment is often referred to as frictional and structural unemployment. You should have notes on what these unemployment types are about. In some countries, the ability to communicate the willing and able worker skills to the firms seeking workers with such skills is slower or more primitive. Thus even a person who has skills which are in demand, might have to suffer with some search and wait unemployment (frictional), while a match is made. In nations were the demand for outputs changes rapidly, the demand for skills also changes frequently. Some folks who were in demand one year, might find their skills in less demand or replaced within a shorter period of time.
